I’m intrigued by objects that remind me of landscapes. I was lucky to have an office space that looked out over the river. Every day, twice a day, a barge would go past with mounds of coal on it. There were usually 5 mounds, always changing shape and sometimes affected by the rain. I watched them for a number of months, and they slowly made it into my sketchbook, then to paintings and finally to sculpture.
